2019: The Year Virtual Reality Gets Real
Virtual reality has come a long way in a short time, and it’s still advancing at a rapid rate.
Yes, 2018 was a challenging year-growth slowed substantially compared to 2017-but a new report from Futuresource Consulting confirms that the future of VR is bright. Worldwide, VR market volume is expected to reach 98.4 million sales by 2023, generating an installed base of 168 million units with a worldwide population penetration of 2%.

Barry sobbed as he begged me not to fire him. I canned him anyway, over and over

Today, the dream of goggle-wearing masses has deflated, and investment in the tech has dwindled. But VR companies like Talespin have found a growing market in simulating the least entertaining content imaginable: our jobs. Consumers may not yet feel the pull of visiting fantasy worlds in their free time, but for businesses that need to train their workers, better tools are a necessity, not a luxury. Weiterlesen →

Filming ‘The Lion King’ in VR was like a “multiplayer filmmaking game,” Says Director

Although The Lion King (2019) might have garnered a tepid reception from film critics, there’s no debating that Jon Favreau’s photorealistic remake of the 1994 original film roars in the visual department. It’s in part thanks to a production pipeline that uniquely relies on virtual reality to better incorporate traditional live-action story telling techniques to the computer generated world. Netflix Show Black Mirror Pushes Boundaries Of Virtual Reality

I love a good binge-worthy show and right now, it’s Black Mirror. The Netflix show pushes boundaries and keeps me thinking about the implications of intelligent technologies (even in some twisted scenarios). One of the latest episodes, “Striking Vipers”, shared the evolution of the gaming experience. Characters wore virtual reality (VR) headsets and it put them physically in the game – allowing them to think, move, and feel within the VR environment all while sitting on their couches at home. 8.
